Music Books Policy It has always been my policy to lend books to pupils rather than to require them to buy all the ones they use. Often pupils do not particularly want the books they use, but I want them to have access to a wide range of pieces, not just to use one at a time. However, I have been checking through my records and have discovered that I spend a lot more on these books than I had realised.
I hope you will consider it fair if from now, (April 2004), I charge £1 each time a book is borrowed. Of course pupils can still pay me the whole cost and keep the books. I will still charge for exam books since these are nice to keep as a record of pieces mastered. I’ve got all mine from Grade 1 onwards! Also exams books are of limited use to lend to other pupils.
Portfolio Policy I provide pupils with a file in which to keep their mark sheets and certificates. I encourage pupils and parents to keep adding to these. If pupils are willing, I like to put a photograph of the pupil playing their own piano on the front. (These photographs are on a CD but are not used for any other purpose) I use an MP3 player to record pupils playing for the purpose of discussing aspects of the performance. From these clips I may create a CD of pupil’s performances which can be added to the portfolio and shared with any family members.
Data Protection Policy I keep basic information about pupils on my computer including address, date of birth, phone numbers and email as well as records of exams taken, concert programmes, and details of payments made. This information is also stored on a CD which is kept in my home. The information is also available to my husband Mr John E Lewis as there has, on occasion, been the need to ask him to refer to the files - when I have been in hospital for example. All the information I hold is available for parents to see if they wish. Back to piano
