About Me
I am always seeking to improve my teaching by brushing up on skills & learning new things.
This is my current programme:-
Aims:-
- To foster and encourage musicianship, and full musical literacy.
- To help pupils become competent and useful pianists.
- To provide opportunities for the use of skills gained.
- Tutor Books – Such books would be appropriate to the personality and needs of the pupil.
- Repertoire – Standard classical works for the piano, as well as modern piano music, jazz, popular music, songs and hymns.
- Theory – This is covered during the lessons in a natural way. Occasionally, formal work may be necessary.
- Composition and harmony – All pupils will cover the basic rules of harmony and practice them by writing simple pieces from time to time.
- Duet work and Accompaniment – All pupils will play duets with me and where practical, with each other. These aid rhythmical accuracy and fluency. Pupils will learn that the art of accompanying involves sensitivity, a high standard of musicianship and sympathetic understanding.
- Exams – Formal examinations may be taken if desired. Usually I use the Trinity College Exams, but also use ABRSM, particularly for theory and Jazz.
- Concerts – I aim to have pupils’ concerts prior to exam periods. All pupils will play at these events. Parents also will be encouraged to play and sing.
